Turin’s Via Garibaldi is a gem comprising eighteenth-century buildings, and is the location of the Relais Le Due Matote, the Turin branch of the more famous Bossolasco Le Due Matote, in the Langhe. The firm’s renovation project for an apartment comprising several attics preserved the enchanting layout of the dwelling amid the rooftops, and focused on decoration and recherché styling.

The inner courtyard entrance, shrouded in jasmine, leads into a living room where breakfast is served. The décor is played out on chestnut and oak floors, linen curtains with dark edging, and antique rugs to buffer the sounds of the city, making the apartment unusually quiet for a place in the old town. Filled with antique furniture and objects steeped in history, the pleasantly welcoming atmosphere attracts mainly overseas visitors who are now regulars at Le Due Matote Torino.

“We opted for furniture from various sources and different eras, but sharing the same unobtrusive elegance,” say Andrea and Chiara, who also designed Le Due Matote’s motif for linens, raw silk blankets and breakfast china.
